The In-house Ghost Collective

The In-house Ghost Collective (2021) is a design collective group consisting of Naeun Baek, Hyeonsong Lee, and Mano Han. There are many secrets behind the images of ghosts behind the bedsheet as seen in movies and cartoons. Designers working for companies hide various projects, encounters that result from them, and records that end up being abandoned without being adopted by companies in the end. Like a ghost, an unrealistic being that moves freely with a layer covered on top of reality, the In-house Ghost Collective explores the potential of images that are newly discovered or interpreted differently when restrictions are lifted from some abandoned ideas under various conditions.

Make a Wish

In the myriad of thoughts and emotions between life and death, creation and extinction, end and beginning, existence and non-existence, and 0 and 1, the feeling of desire is the moment and trace of inner needs gaining form.

The In-house Ghost Collective tactfully crosses the boundaries of reality and virtuality—analog and digital worlds—and collects various wishes and desires of people that exist in the real world. Then, the group expresses them in the form of the most primitive stone tower from ancient times, and imagines the form of ever-changing desires in a futuristic language. Stones accumulated in the digital space that is free of gravity gradually grow in size as more participants scroll over the image. As soon as the stones made by the participants are piled up on the website in real time, the graphics on the monitor at the exhibition hall also change in real time, visually showing the “digital stone tower” and “virtual guest book.”
