As a preliminary event held in anticipation of Typojanchi 2023: International Typography Biennale (“Typojanchi”) scheduled for the fall of 2023 in Seoul, Typojanchi Saisai 2022–2023 (“Saisai”) stereoscopically explores the theme of the biennale, “Typography and Sound.” 

Under the title “Materialized Sound, Embodied Text,” Saisai invites creators in a wide variety of fields, from design and literature to music. The event creatively highlights processes
where sound is visualized or materialized through dictation, typing, printing, and coding, and where letters turn into sound through acts including playback, recitation, and performance as a way to encounter the history of typography, examine its present, and imagine its future.

“Materialized Sound, Embodied Text” is not only the title of Saisai but also the key concept permeating the main biennale scheduled for next year. This pre-event dedicated to understanding the relationship between text and sound from literary, musical, and visual arts perspectives will heighten public interest in the biennale’s theme of “Typography and Sound.”
